Increasingly more women are moving into senior leadership roles, and at 6 River Systems (6RS), we have prioritized gender diversity and are proud to have women account for 20% of our leadership. Gillan Hawkes, our VP of Product and Analytics, is paving the way as a fearless woman leader within 6RS and the industry. We’re not the only ones who think so — she was recently recognized as a Top Woman in Supply Chain by Supply & Demand Chain Executive.
The 2020 Top Women in Supply Chain have all been recognized for their ability to thrive in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry. Gillan takes seriously the impact of her leadership at 6RS and one of her top priorities is fostering and lifting up her fellow female employees to make sure they have the tools they need to succeed. She is passionate about closing the gender gap between men and women at the top levels of management, and she actively mentors other women in the industry to help them achieve leadership positions. Within 6RS, she leads a Q&A mentoring session specifically for the women in the company, allowing her to share her knowledge, advice and experiences from working in both retail and supply chain with her colleagues who are eager to grow in the industry. Gillan strives to expand her mentoring to more women within the industry, including customers who can benefit from her experience and use this knowledge in order to grow and help their workforce.
“Gillan has brought a unique and much-needed perspective to our operations here,” said Rylan Hamilton, co-founder and co-CEO of 6 River Systems. “Her knowledge of retail and e-commerce operations translates perfectly toward creative and strategic solutions for our customers. On top of that, she has been a huge driver for diversity in our company. Her work in mentoring other female employees at 6RS has been invaluable.”
Gillan’s experience gives her a unique perspective of what customers need from their supply chain in order to be successful, which is extremely valuable as e-commerce rapidly evolves as a result of COVID-19, blurring the lines between retail and supply chain.
The global pandemic has undoubtedly been the biggest challenge facing supply chains and retailers this year, dramatically expediting the move towards e-commerce that was already underway. Gillan has worked closely with customers this year to introduce flexible automation, improve their omnichannel fulfillment strategies and align on health and safety guidelines for keeping warehouse employees safe. “Whatever our customers have been challenged with, Gillan has been able to work closely with our customer success and product teams to identify the pain points and find solutions, and we couldn’t be more thankful for her expertise,” said Jerome Dubois, co-founder and co-CEO.
Gillan sets an example of what women can achieve every day at 6RS through her leadership and drive, and she leads through action. She is one of the top women leading this industry through a time of immense change, and we are grateful to have her talent and knowledge on our team.
